US Mint Police

Established in 1792, the United States Mint Police is one of the oldest federal law enforcement agencies in the nation. Responsible for establishing the standard "As secure as Fort Knox," Mint Police officers continue to meet that standard everyday. The US Mint Police are responsible for protecting over $100 billion in Treasury and other Government assets stored in facilities located at Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA; West Point, NY; Denver, CO; Fort Knox, KY; and our headquarters in Washington, DC.

US Mint Police Officers have the primary responsibility for protecting life and property, preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal acts, collecting and preserving evidence, making arrests, and enforcing Federal and local laws. To accomplish this mission the Mint Police have establish a number of special units such as bike patrol, and the Special Response Teams (SRT).

Each of the US Mint SRT is comprised volunteer officers chosen from their respective facilities. Officers selected for the SRT must be highly motivated, in excellent physical condition, and successfully complete a battery of tests before being selected for the assignment. After passing an initial selection, officers are required to successfully complete a certified Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) training program. Special Response Teams train on a regular and recurring basis at each of the field facilities. The teams regularly train with other law enforcement agencies. Additionally, Special Response Teams are mobilized to different facilities for special events that occur. Most recently, SRT teams from Fort Knox flew to Philadelphia, PA for the Republican National Convention and to Washington, DC, for the Presidential inauguration in January of 2001.
