)Special Operations Company) traces it's history back to 1942, when a commando team was formed in achnacarry, Scotland. By 1953 there were six commando groups, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 102nd, and 103rd Commando Companies. At this time these units were all disbanded and the 104th, 105th, and 108th Commando Companies were raised. A reorganization in 1964 transferred the 105th and 108th to the reserves and renamed the remaining active unit, to the 104th LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol).
A slight reorganization in 1993 switched the 104th and 108th, the former becoming the 104th Commando Company in the reserve forces and the latter going to the active forces and becoming the 108th Special Operations Company. The 108th is a company several hundred soldiers strong.
Members of the 108th are armed with the following weapons: Glock-17 Pistol, C7A1 assault rifle, C7A1/M203, C8A1, C8A1/M203, Stinger Man-portable SAM (Surface to Air Missile), M82 Barret sniper rifle, M72A3, Mercedes Jeep with FN-MAG and/or TOW II missiles.
