Belgium's Para-commando Regiment contains two small units that are special
operations capable. The first, ESR (Equips Speciales de Reconnaisance
Compagnie) dates back to 1960, when it was formed to give the I Belgium
Corps a long range reconnaissance capacity. This unit is company sized,
and uses the standard weapons of the Belgium Army. Two similar units exist
within the reserve structure.
The second unit is a small frogman section. It is a highly secretive unit,
but is known to be about platoon sized and is similar to the Enlish SBS.
