The Companhia de Precursores (pathfinder Company) is an elite unit within the Portuguese Army’s Brigada Aerotransportada Independente (BAI-Airborne Brigade). Their mission’s include:
Recon and operate launching and landing zones
Navigation and control of air traffic in hostile environment
Limited direct action operations
Operate behind enemy lines
In order to maintain it's operational levels, the Prec's Company participate in several drills and exercises. These include:
Land Infiltration drills
Tactical drills:
low altitude infiltration jumps (auto opening)->day, night, land or water
high altitude infiltration jumps (HAHO and HALO)->day, night with oxygen (SOGA Teams)
other drills with other forces
The Prec training course is divided in two parts:
Phase A -Commando tactics
Phase B - Air operations
After completing this course, the Precursores must take the Saltadores de Operacionais de Grande Altitude (SOGA - HALO/HAHO) course, which allows:
High altitude jumps with oxygen equipment, combat equipment and a wing type parachute.
HALO and HAHO jumps.
Unfortunately due to the nature of this elite unit’s operations, there is no more available information.
