The Companhia de Precursores (pathfinder Company) is an elite unit within the Portuguese Army’s Brigada Aerotransportada Independente (BAI-Airborne Brigade). Their mission’s include:
  • Recon and operate launching and landing zones
  • Navigation and control of air traffic in hostile environment
  • Limited direct action operations
  • Operate behind enemy lines

    In order to maintain it's operational levels, the Prec's Company participate in several drills and exercises. These include:

  • Land Infiltration drills
  • Tactical drills:
  • low altitude infiltration jumps (auto opening)->day, night, land or water
  • high altitude infiltration jumps (HAHO and HALO)->day, night with oxygen (SOGA Teams)
  • other drills with other forces The Prec training course is divided in two parts:
  • Phase A -Commando tactics
  • Phase B - Air operations

    After completing this course, the Precursores must take the Saltadores de Operacionais de Grande Altitude (SOGA - HALO/HAHO) course, which allows:

  • High altitude jumps with oxygen equipment, combat equipment and a wing type parachute.
  • HALO and HAHO jumps.

    Unfortunately due to the nature of this elite unit’s operations, there is no more available information.
