AK-47 Kalashnikov

The AK-47 assault Rifle was the standard weapon of the Soviet Armed forces and exists in greater numbers than any other type of automatic rifle. Due to the amount of foreign aid the Soviet Union was responsible for and it's rugged construction the AK-47 became a popular weapon world-wide. Many third-world nations use the AK-47 and US, Israeli, and other special operations forces use the AK-47 on missions where it is important to blend in with the local forces.

The AK-47 was developed in WWII for the Soviet Union and served as the main weapon for the Soviet Army until 1977 when production was began on the AK-74. It is Gas-operated and highly reliable, but accuracy beyond 300m is poor. An improved model, the AKM was released that took advantage of improved manufacturing techniques. The AK-47 is one of the most widely-used weapons in the world today.
