Colt M1911A1 .45 automatic pistol Despite the design of newer pistols, the Colt .45 has been in use by many different forces since its introduction in 1911. The M1911 is very reliable and the .45 round is powerful enough to ensure that a target hit by it will stay down. This power has almost guarenteed its continued usage in light of the increased availability and usage of body armor by terrorists.

Sig-Sauer P-226 The Sig P-226 was designed for the US Army's contest for a pistol to replace the M1911. It is an excellent pistol, having lost out to the beretta on pricing grounds. It offers a 15 round magazine and ambidextrous magazine catch.
